Whitewater Lake Anglers Choice 5/19/2013
Whitewater fished very tough today and most likely will be the smallest weights to cash a check all year.  Scott and Daniel took first place with the help of the big bass for the day.  Thomas and Dan took 2nd place with only 9.68 lbs but good enough for a 450.00 payday.  You can view the full results and pictures and video from the water on the tournament director tab above.

Anglers Choice Championship Kentucky Lake 5/12/2013
Just got back from the Anglers Choice championship on Kentucky Lake.  Teams competed for 1 of 3 Legend boats and cash and prizes.  I only had 27lbs in the two days of competition but had a lot of fun on a great lake.  The SE WI division did have a team bring home a check.  Caleb and Dan took 7th place and made a few grand for the effort.   Be sure to get in on the SE WI division this year as next years championship will be even bigger and better.  Next event is Whitewater Lake and you can find more details on the Tournament Director Tab.

Everstart Championship Recap 11/6/2012
I went down for the Everstart Championship on the Quachita River in LA with 3 days to prefish.  In that 3 days I went through 4 tanks of gas in the boat trying to find current or clean water.  When I found none I started looking for the bait and found a few areas with lots of bait and some bass.  A background on the Quachita River will show you the decision I made may not have been the best one.  The Quachita River is in mostly LA waters which has a 12inch size limit.  The northern 5 miles is in AR waters and has a 13 inch size limit.  I decided that my best chance to get that 7 to 8 lbs a day and make the top 20 cut was to fish the AR waters for a bit bigger fish.   That decision may have been correct if I could have gotten limits but I managed only 3 fish over 13inchs each day in AR waters.  I spent most of my days fishing in AR waters and perhaps would have done a bit better fishing in LA water and catching limits.  In AR waters I caught plenty on 12 inchers but had to throw them back because of the size limit difference.  Fish and learn and it was fun to fish my first major championship.  Ending up with a little over 10lbs for 2 days and 80th place finish.  I think all in all it was the right move to fish for 13 and 14 inchers and try to make the cut and not just fish a layup and make the top 50 check.   Next year FLW will not have a championship and I may just concentrate on the BFLs and fish a bit closer to home.

Southeast Wisconsin Anglers Choice Tournament Completed 10-20-12
I hosted the last tournament for Anglers Choice in 2012 Saturday on Whitewater Lake.  The tournaments went well and we had some big sack weighed in.  We had winning bags of 22lbs and winning bags of 9lbs.  Keep an eye on this site for the 2013 Anglers Choice schedule coming this winter season.  I will see many of you on Kentucky Lake for the Tournament of Champions and look forward to seeing what Justin and Charles can do in the AOY race on Kentucky Lake.

Lake of the Ozarks Everstart Series 9/17/2012
The final tournament of the Everstart series was on Lake of the Ozarks this past weekend.  I got down with 3 days to prefish so I felt like I should be able to get on something.  I spent 13 hours a day on the water finding a solid buzz bait bite during practice as the fish were on the move with the temps dropping and going into fall mode.  The first day of the tournament came and I spent 4 hours with that buzz bait in 7 spots not finding them like I did in practice.  I switched to a wacky rig only to manage short fish and one 12inch spot that went 15ozs.  On day 2 I made the same choice to throw a buzz bait and it paid off with three quick keepers.  I had the points I thought to stay in the top 40 cut at that point so I switched to a jig and really got into a solid pattern to end the day with over 11lbs.  Day 2 I caught every fish on a Double Catch Lure buzz bait or jig.  You cant win on day 1 but you sure can lose and thats what I did.  I finished the year in 22nd overall in points and will be heading for the championship on Ouachita River in LA.

PDC BFL 8-28-2012
I went up to prefish for this BFL for a day two weeks earlier and found smallmouth all over.  I then prefished the day before the tournament and with no current moving I knew the smallmouth would be gone.  I went to some backwater areas for largemouth and found them stacked up but on tournament day they just would roll on my frog and being deep in the slop I could not get them out.  I spent to much time trying different presentations but could not pull them out.  I locked back down to a marina with only 10 minutes left to get at least one fish and get some points.  I think my area had the fish to compete to win but I failed to figure out the best way to get them out.

Lacrosse Everstart Series 8-02-2012
The 3rd Everstart tournament came to the Mississippi River in Lacrosse and although it was close to home I only managed a day and a half of prefishing.  On day 1 I found smallmouth early and then largemouth to cull them out in the afternoon .The tournament was a 3 fish limit deal so that kinda took playing the numbers game away and I never found any big fish.  I had just over 6 lbs on day 1.  Day 2 I skipped going for a limit of smallmouth and went to the largemouth.  Again I caught numbers but no size with just over 7lbs.  I finished the tournament in 80th or so place but only fell from 16th to 20th in the AOY standings.  Only one Everstart tournament left on Lake of the Ozarks so I hope to be in good shape to make the championship.

Alma BFL Info 7-15-2012
I went to the third BFL of the Great Lakes division this weekend.  The tournament was on the Mississippi River on pools 3, 4 and 5 I think.  I did not arrive to Alma until noon on Friday which gave me 4 hours to prefish so I relied on my knowledge from previous years to carry me through.  I did not lock and fished in or around Lake Pepin most of the day.  The tournament was a 3 fish limit so I took some chances in areas I haven't been to in years because I knew I could get three fish near the takeoff site if needed anyways.  It paid off making a 45 minute run across Pepin and catching 3 keepers for about 5 lbs.  I then fished around middle of Pepin and upgraded a fish to get to about 6 lbs.  With the limited time of prefishing I had I was happy with 6lbs but If I could upgrade just one more time I could get some good points so I busted out the frog and tossed it in areas others did not go to upgrade again to 6.5lbs and then again to 7lbs.  After three tournaments in the BFL I am in 48th place overall with two events left.  Ill be concentrating on Lacrosse getting ready for the Everstart tournament which should be a fun tournament.

Anglers Choice Pewaukee Lake 7-7-2012
I ran a tournament on Pewaukee Lake today.  We had 4 fish over 5lbs brought to the scales and some very nice bags.  The winning team came to Pewaukee looking to earn some points towards the championship and found a spot later in the day that had 21lbs of largemouth on it. That team was Dale and Chris who fished soft plastics most of the day and showed that anything can happen if you keep fishing and work hard.  Dale and Chris had a 5lb largemouth to anchor the 5 fish limit  In 2nd place was Justin and Charles who chased smallmouth most of the day.  I should not say chase as they worked one spot very hard to catch a 5 bas limit going 21lbs.  Justin and Charles also had a huge 5.37 lb smallmouth for Big Bass on the day.  The Phelps brought in a nice bag at 17lbs and Zach and Pat brought in a 16lb bag.

Pewaukee Parade 7-4-2012
My pro staff and I went out and tossed out candy and DCL products at the Pewaukee parade.  It was a good time and Double Catch Lures pro staff had a great time.

Whitewater Lake, WI Anglers Choice 6-24-2012
I ran another tournament for Anglers Choice team tournament trail.  This event was on Whitewater Lake and expected to be another big bass battle.  The lake producing well with several 4 lb largemouth being weighed in.  Big Bass was over 5 lbs brought in by Glenn Lyon.  Glenn also took 2nd place on the day with over 18lb.  He reported catching his fish mostly on tubes in 8-12 feet of water with rocks.  In 3rd place was Caleb and Dan who caught fish on a jig of course.  The big winners with just over 19lbs are Lee and Greg who said to catch most fish on crankbaits and 10inch worms.  Next up will be Pewaukee Lake and we should see many mixed bags of smallies and largemouth.  Check out the on the water video from the tournament below.

Little Muskego Anglers Choice 6-9-2012
I ran a tournament on Little Muskego Lake for Anglers Choice Tournament Trail.  The lake was a bit slower then most had hoped for but the big bags still came in.  In 3rd place was Justin and Charles with over 16lbs on soft plastics.  In 2nd place with over 19lbs was Mel and Ron who used jerkbaits in deeper water to catch this big limit and big bass over 5lbs.   In first place using soft plastics was Caleb and Dan with just over 20lbs.  You can see more info at the tournament tab above and watch the video.  Next tournament will be on Whitewater Lake.

Rock Lake Tournament on 5-19-2012 for Anglers Choice
We held the first tournament of the 7 to qualify for the Anglers Choice Tournament of Champions.  Taking first place honors are Dave VanErt and Rick Hanfler.  They reported catching most of the 14lbs early in the morning with bedding smallmouth.  The 2nd place team of Dale Pavey and his brother also found most of the weight with 4 smallmouth on beds early but needed one small largemouth to fill out a limit.  In 3rd place was the new team of Gary and Mike.  Rock Lake played tough today but will show its true colors when we visit it again later this year.  You can view full results and pictures at the Tournament Director tab above.

Kentucky Lake Everstart Tournament 5/13/2012
The two pictures below tell you the story.  After Day 1 I was in 7th place with over 16lbs.  Day 1 was full of fish and big fish which related to big chunk rock really well.  Day 2 the fish left and did not relate to anything that I could find.  The fish scattered and I only managed 5 bites all day but only boated 2 of them.  Those 2 fish weigh 6 pounds and brought me down to 54th place.  Looking back at the tournament I wish I could have boated more fish the 2nd day but I did get the bites I needed.  The tournament did help me move into 16th place overall in the Angler of the Year points which is the man goal to stay in the top 40.

Day 1 fish.   2 big ones

Day 2 fish - 1 big one
